Foreign currency deposit

Foreign currencies accepted: US dollar (US$), euro (€), pounds sterling (£) and Swiss franc (CHF)

Do you have US dollars or another foreign currency to deposit? Now you can deposit foreign currency at a Laurentian Bank automated banking machine (ABM).1 To learn how, and for information on processing times, read the following.

  • Fill out slip 7156B (available at the counter at your branch) by indicating the amount to be deposited (in US dollars).
  • Include it with your deposit.
  • Enter the amount to be deposited on the screen (in US dollars).
Important notes:
  • All US dollar deposits to a US dollar account must go through a Canadian dollar account. The non converted amount deposited will therefore temporarily appear in your Canadian dollar account.
  • If you do not use a slip, the amount will be converted to Canadian dollars, and the deposit will be made in your Canadian dollar account.

The transfer to your US dollar account will take
up to three (3) business days.

Using any of the money deposited before it is transferred could lead to an unauthorized overdraft.

  • Insert the deposit into the designated envelope.
  • Enter the amount to be deposited on the screen (in US dollars).

The currency conversion will take up to three (3) business days.

  • Insert the deposit into the designated envelope.
  • Enter the amount to be deposited on the screen (in foreign currency).

The currency conversion will take up to six (6) business days.

Using any of the money deposited before it is converted could lead to an unauthorized overdraft.

Exchange rate applied

The exchange rate applied to the deposit will be that of the day the cheque or cash was processed by Laurentian Bank. The exchange rate could therefore differ from that posted the day you made the deposit.

Laurentian Bank can, at its discretion, refuse to process the transaction under certain circumstances. Laurentian Bank is not responsible for any loss, consequence or additional fees resulting from the processing time or from using the service in a way that does not comply with this product information sheet or that is otherwise inappropriate.

1. THE EXCHANGE® ABMs do not permit foreign currency deposits.
2. Please note that a hold period could be added to the processing time. Refer to the My Money guide for further details regarding hold periods on funds. If the money deposited is used before processing is complete (including the hold period), fees may apply, and additional delays may occur.
3. Foreign currencies, except US dollars, are not accepted. If other foreign currencies are deposited, they will be rejected and returned to the client.
